Quilled Balloons

If you are interested in quilling, there are many great project books on the market.  I used the Klutz Twirled Paper kit for this layout.  It includes quilling strips, a quilling tool and glue.  I prefer thicker strips so I used strips I had previously purchased at Treasure Island.

Instructions:

1.                To begin my project, I ripped a small piece of Daisy D patterned paper to fit inside the 4x6 Making Memories red cardstock.  I then cut an even smaller piece of the blue 4x6 Making Memories cardstock to put inside the Daisy D.  I adhered it all together. Next, I stamped the entire thing with the Colorbox ink and the butterfly stamp from Best Friend Bears.  Once the ink was dry, I added colored alphabet stickers and started my quilling.

2.                I quill right onto the title mat that I just created. To quill, you wrap the quilling paper around the end of the quilling needle until it is completely wound then let it unwind to the specifications of your project sheet and then glue the end to the spiral.  My balloons were made out of 1 large spiral circle and then one small spiral circle that was pinched into a moon shape.

3.                Once my large spiral circles were dry (the ends attached to the circles), I glued them to my title mat at the left top.  I then attached my half moons to the bottom of my circles to make my balloons.  The springs attached to my balloons are cut pieces of Sticky Stitches.

4.                To finish my mat, I used Dee’s Designs Distressed Effects stitches rubons.  They give the mat a machine-sewn look.

5.                The second part of my project was stamping the red Bazzill, which was my background.  I stamped it with the butterfly stamp and the Colorbox ink.  Once it was dry, I tore a 12 x 2 strip of the same Daisy D patterned paper used on the mat for each side of my background and adhered them.  I left room around the edge of the background for some more Distressed Effects rub on stitches.

6.                I then cut my photos down to size and attached the two that didn’t have mats to the top right side of the layout. 

7.                For my focal photo, I took a piece of the red double dipped cardstock and a piece of the blue double dipped cardstock and stamped both with the Colorbox ink and the butterfly stamp.  I then matted my photo onto the blue and cut the blue down to size, and then matted that onto the red, leaving the red at the 4x6 size.  I then added more of the Distressed Effects stitching to the focal photo mat, and attached it to the page at the bottom right. 

8.                Adding journaling at the end and the page is finished.
