Light a candle in your home in memory of everyone
who is suffering in the wake of Hurricane Katrina

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina,
We reach out to all of you who suffer
With our love, compassion, and prayers.
We solemnly recognize every moment of fear and dread,
loss and terror,  grief and angst,
Thirst and hunger, pain and panic,
Destruction and devastation,
Death and  sorrow, sleeplessness and stress
You all have borne, suffered, and endured.

Our thoughts are totally consumed
With deepest grief and rising anger
Towards the turn of events!
At your feet, life's cruel and devastating nightmare
Delivered death, destruction, suffering, and a struggle to survive.
You above all others need our immediate support!

We reach out to you with our love, compassion, and prayers.
We surround you with our love!
We enfold you with our compassion,
And we uphold you with our prayers.

We light a candle in our homes for you
And we pray that somehow...
Our love, compassion, and prayers
Will touch your hearts and lives
So that you know that you are not alone!

******
There is a simple story about two little girls playing...
One of them has a dolly whose arm falls out while the girls are playing.

They both start to cry...
One holding the dolly... the other one holding the arm
They try to fix it but can't... so they cry together... for a long time.

So long, in fact, that one of the little girls is very late coming home
from playing at her friend's house.
This child's mother begins to scold her daughter
the minute she walks in the door.
It takes the mother a moment to see that her daughter has been crying.

Then, the mother stoops down to hold her daughter close
and asks her why she is crying.
The little girl tells her mother about her friend's dolly.
Her mother says,
"You know you don't know how to fix a dolly like that,
why didn't you come home when you were supposed to?"

The little girl says,
"Oh, Moooommy, we gave up trying to fix her dolly...
I stayed with her because
I was helping her cry!"
*****
And so...
With all our love....
We reach out to your hearts from our hearts.
With all our compassion... We help you cry.
With all our prayers... We help you hope and have courage.

May you each and all feel the love, compassion and prayers
of everyone who cannot 'be there' with you.

Please say a prayer for all those affected
by the destruction of Hurricane Katrina.

We will rebuild.
We will overcome.
