Sands of Time

Have you ever considered using sand in your stamping creations?  It looks really cool and gives added texture and depth to a project.  Sound difficult? It’s not ~ really!  However, the heat gun holster (stand) is a must have with this project to free up your hands.  I keep my sand in a square plastic container with a spoon. This way it is easy and quick to use as well as store it.  Have the container open and a spoon loaded with sand.

Seashell card

Supplies:

•  Be Authentic stamp (TAC)
•  Mini Shells (TAC ~ retired)
•  VersaMark (Tsukineko)
•  Heat n’ Stick Powder (Ranger)
•  White Sand  (unknown ~ any craft store carries it)
•  Black Sand  (unknown ~ any craft store carries it)
•  Kraft cardstock; ½ Sheet (5½” x 8½”) fold in half
•  Black cardstock; scrap (5½” x 2½”)
•  Heat Tool (Milwaukee)
•  Heat Gun Holster/stand (TAC)
•  Mono Adhesive (Tombow)
 

Instructions:

1.    I keep my sand in a square plastic container with a spoon. This way it is easy and quick to use as well as store it.  Have container open and spoon loaded with sand.

2.    Tear long sides of black cardstock scrap. Stamp shells using VersaMark onto this piece. 

3.    Warm up your heat gun and leave in the heat gun holster (stand).  

4.    Sprinkle stamped image with Heat n’ Stick powder.  Now the secret is to not overheat this powder or it will dry up.  Lightly heat under the heat tool. 

5.    Quickly pour white sand over the activated sticky powder. Reheat to set. 

6.    Stamp saying with VersaMark and cover with Heat n’ Stick powder. Activate with heat and quickly cover with black sand. Heat again to set. 

7.    Attach black stamped cardstock to this piece with Mono Adhesive. 

Sand Castle card 

Supplies:

•  Sand Castle from Believe stamp set (TAC)
•  Sand stamp from Under the Sea stamp set (TAC)
•  VersaMark (Tsukineko)
•  Heat n’ Stick Powder (Ranger)
•  Black Sand  (unknown - any craft store carries it)
•  Kraft cardstock:
        ½ Sheet (5½” x 8½”) fold in half
        Small rectangle (3” x 2”)
•  Black cardstock; scrap (3 7/8” x 2 7/8”)
•  White Naturals cardstock (3½” x 2½”)
•  Blue “water” background paper:
        Long strip (5½” x 2¼”)
        Small rectangle (3¼” x 2¼”)
•  Heat Tool (Milwaukee)
•  Heat Gun Holster (stand) (TAC)
•  Deckle scissors (Fiskars)
•  Mono Adhesive (Tombow) 

Instructions:

1.    Stamp sand image using VersaMark onto the half sheet of kraft cardstock alternating placement. 

2.    Trim one edge of the long strip of background paper with the deckle scissors.  Attach to folded edge of kraft cardstock. 

3.    Using Mono Adhesive, attach small rectangle of background paper to white naturals cardstock and then to rectangle of black cardstock.  Mount this on the folded card. 

4.    Warm up your heat gun and leave in the heat gun holster (stand).  

5.    Stamp sand castle using VersaMark on the small rectangle of kraft cardstock. 

6.    Sprinkle stamped image with Heat n’ Stick powder.  Now the secret is to not overheat this powder or it will dry up.  So lightly heat under the heat tool. 

7.    Quickly pour black sand over the activated sticky powder. Reheat to set. 

8.    Attach to the rest of the card with Mono Adhesive.
